EMDR Training Information & Participant Agreement
Please read and sign indicating your understanding and agreement prior to commencement of participation in EMDR Therapy Training with the Advanced Education Institute. Any questions about this information and agreement should be directed to office@ascpsychological.com. This form should be completed and returned to office@ascpsychological.com prior to the date of the training.
Qualifications for Attending: A clinical background is necessary for the effective application of EMDR therapy. Attendance at this training is limited to all levels of social workers and mental health professionals who have a master’s degree or higher in the mental health field and are licensed, registered or certified through a state or national board which authorizes independent practice. Graduate Student clinicians are eligible to enroll in the course if they have the approval of their clinical supervisor, with the understanding that participants’ integration of EMDR skills into clinical practice is an essential component of the 10 hours of EMDR Therapy Training Consultation. Graduate Student clinicians must submit a current supervisor’s letter of acknowledgement of the above, including the supervisor’s degree and license number to office@ascpsychological.com.
Completion Requirements: This is a complete EMDR Therapy Training approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Participants will learn the EMDR psychotherapy approach, the basic eight-phase EMDR protocol, the Adaptive Information Processing Model, and how to incorporate EMDR into your practice. Participants must attend the full training and 10 hours of consultation to receive a certificate of completion in EMDR Therapy Training. If make-up consultations are needed at other times and dates, participants may schedule individual consultation at their own cost. According to EMDRIA regulations, participants must complete the entire training including consultation hours within 24 months from their initial start date unless there are extraordinary circumstances, approval of partial programs will not be granted.
Informed Consent Regarding What to Expect: This course will consist of virtual didactic presentations, demonstrations, supervised practicum, and case consultations. Case material presented is trauma-focused and may be disturbing. The practicum component will involve participants giving and receiving EMDR therapy under small group supervision. The practice is for educational purposes only and not for personal therapy. During processing, a targeted memory could link to unexpected, disturbing material or memories. The processing of targeted memories could continue after the training, and additional related memories, emotions, thoughts, body sensations, and dreams may arise. In such cases, it is the responsibility of the participant to seek and obtain appropriate assistance. Providing such assistance is not part of the training, but the participant may request referrals for EMDR trained therapists or find a qualified EMDR therapist listed on www.EMDRIA.org.
Completion of EMDR therapy training is for clinical purposes only and does not qualify participants to train others in EMDR Therapy.
The undersigned acknowledges understanding and agreement with the above information.
